Nowadays, the number of orthodontic courses, lectures and publications is overwhelming and, unfortunately, they carry conflicting information or recommendations, which ultimately hinder, rather than facilitate decision-making in everyday practice.

Moreover, daily confrontation with ideal orthodontic treatment results, presented in the digital world and social media, can raise concerns about the level of our own effectiveness.

How to sift through the vast amount of information to find what is closest to the truth and how to use it in our personal pursuit of both perfection as well as avoiding complications in daily practice?

This may seem particularly difficult in young patients, when additional unknown variables must be considered, such as the  patient's growth and development.

Clinical practice based on Evidence Based Medicine can help predict possible scenarios of the patient's development, and plan the most effective way to treat a specific malocclusion.

Aims and objectives:

  • Principles and benefits of applying EBM in everyday orthodontic practice
  • Presentation of methods for analyzing scientific publications
  • Discussion of the latest, well-proven recommendations for treating the most common dental malocclusions in growing patients

Learning outcomes:

  • Understanding the purpose and benefits of using EBM in making daily therapeutic decisions
  • Understanding the role of critical evaluation of information and scientific publications
  • Familiarization with the latest recommendations for treating the most common malocclusions in accordance with EBM
