1. These awards are open to junior researchers, presenting research undertaken as part of an orthodontic postgraduate university programme, Masters or Doctorate level research.
2. For the 100th Congress, all abstracts accepted for poster presentations will be presented as e-posters only. There will be no physical posters.
3. Papers and e-posters under combined authorship are eligible, provided that the senior author sends written confirmation to the EOS Abstracts Office that the work is mainly that of the junior author.
4. Papers and e-posters must be presented personally, in English, by the first named junior author, who must have been a member of the Society for a minimum of two consecutive years preceding the Congress, and who must have registered for the Congress and paid the appropriate registration fee in full by 6 April 2025.
5. The applicants for the research awards shall submit an abstract through the online process, indicating whether it is to be considered for either the oral or the e-poster award. Additionally, they shall also submit an essay on the research project. This should be a Word document, double-spaced and not more than 12 pages of A4 including the abstract, main text, references, tables and figures. Both abstract and paper must be submitted by Sunday 15 December 2024 at 23:59 CET.
6. Reports from independent expert referees may be obtained and made available to the Scientific Committee who will then indicate to the applicant whether it has been accepted. Due to the limited number of oral presentation slots, a maximum of 4 top-scoring submissions can be selected for oral presentations. The decision of the Committee will be final.
7. The prizes will be judged at the Congress by two, independent, panels of three judges. One panel consisting of the Immediate Past President, a member of the Executive and another member of the Council will judge the prize for the best oral presentation. The second panel will judge the prize for the best e-poster and will consist of the Honorary Secretary/Treasurer, the Chair of the Scientific Committee, and one ordinary member involved in orthodontic teaching. The panels of judges will be appointed by the Council and a report will be given to the Council meeting.
8. The prizes shall be judged at the Congress, and the awards will be presented at the Awards Ceremony on Friday 6 June.
9. The Society reserves the right to withdraw or withhold funds from the W J B Houston Award dependent on the resources available and may modify the amount of the award.
