An innovative, personalized three-dimensional bone reconstruction in orthodontic reason
Orthodontic treatment is currently very common in a significant percentage of dental patients, regardless of the age. It is well known that proper and effective tooth movement requires the presence of an adequate amount and quality of bone. Induced tooth movement should only be carried out at the alveolar bone trabeculae. Unfortunately, the occurrence of a gingival recession is still a common side effect. To avoi this the thickness of the anterior part of the alveolar bone, especilaly amount of spongy bone should be considered as a limiting factor for orthodontic treatment. Exceeding these anatomical limits is associated with an increased risk of bone loss and the formation of alveolar bone defects – dehiscences and fenestrations. In addition, pre-existing bone defects often act as “predisposing factors” for gingival recession. For this reason, alternative solutions and treatment methods are being sought. Regenerative medicine, which has already been known in reconstructive surgery, is used increasingly more often in the treatment of alvelar bone defects. That’s why 3D personalized bone reconstruction will be presented as a method for improvement of alveolar ridge before or after orthodontic treatment.
